Sir Oungku's Antiguan soca band, formed after Burning Flames.
Behind the music
Red Hot Flames is the Antiguan soca band led by Clarence "Oungku" Edwards, one of the founding members of Burning Flames, where he sang and played keyboards. Oungku left Burning Flames in 2005, after the band won the Antigua Road March that year with "De Harder Deh Come", and he formed Red Hot Flames the same year. The new group won the Road March in 2006 with "Trouble". Releases credited to Sir Oungku and Red Hot Flames have continued to circulate on soca channels, among them "Thundah Bolt" from 2012, "Hot Date" and "Voodoo Darlee", both posted as 2016 soca from Antigua, plus "Hypnotic" and "Awer Subbn". The band name keeps a link to the Flames family name that Oungku helped build, while the catalog stands under his own leadership. A Caymanian Times feature also points to his song "Oungku Too Bad-Minded" as a sign that the split was not entirely smooth. "Hot Date" and "Hypnotic" make good starting points.
