Behind the music

The story so far.

El-A-Kru is a soca band from Antigua. It began in 1990 as L.A. Crew, a name taken from "Little Antigua Crew", and spent its early years playing hotel and tourist circuits. In 1998 the group brought in lead singer Tanzania "Tizzy" Sebastian and changed its name to El-A-Kru. Keyboardist Rohan "Sylky" Hector is listed as founder, producer and musical director, with Glenroy "Zamba" Richards as vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter. "Lethal Batty" became the band's first hit beyond Antigua at the 1999 Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. "Antigua Nice" was used by the Antigua tourism ministry around the 2007 Cricket World Cup, and "Expose" ran on MTV Tempo's Cross Caribbean Countdown in 2007. That year Tizzy won Female Soca Performer of the Year and Best New Female Soca Artist at the International Soca Awards. Later uploads such as "I Luv Carnival" and "Property" are credited to Tizzy and El-A-Kru.
