Behind the music

The story so far.

Arrow was the stage name of Alphonsus Cassell, a singer from Montserrat whose "Hot, Hot, Hot" became one of the most widely heard soca records ever made. He began singing calypso in 1967, when he took the junior monarch title, placed second in the Montserrat Calypso King contest in 1969 and won it in 1970, going on to hold the Montserrat crown four times. His brothers Justin "Hero" Cassell and Lorenzo "Young Challenger" Cassell were also calypso kings on the island. His early releases include the single "Dance With Me Woman" and the album The Mighty Arrow on Target. "Hot, Hot, Hot" was adopted as the theme of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and "Long Time" was performed on Top of the Pops. After the Soufriere Hills eruption he organised a fundraising calypso festival. The Nation reported his death in September 2010 at the age of 60.
