Behind the music
Onyan is the stage name of Toriano "King Onyan" Edwards, one of the three Edwards brothers who formed the Antiguan soca band Burning Flames in 1984, where he handled vocals and guitar. According to a Caymanian Times feature on the band, he started a solo career as King Onyan in 1997, won four Calypso Monarch titles on his own, and returned to Burning Flames in 2006 alongside his brother David "Krokuss" Edwards. Petra the Spectator's history of Antigua's Party Monarch contest names his "Crazy Man" among the songs of the competition's early years, and the song survives on his YouTube topic channel as "Crazyman". His later work often carries a joint credit, as on "Kick Een She Back Door", released as Onyan and Burning Flames in 2012, the same year as the album Countdown to Rehab. He has also released "Whoops Whaps", "Stand Up For Antigua" and the 2015 release De Onyan Effeck Yolo.
