Nicole David, known as Nicki, was a Saint Lucian soca singer often called the island's Queen of Soca. SocaNews reports that she started out with the band DN5 before becoming lead vocalist of Spectacle. Her 2005 song Bounce, also known as Queen of the Jungle, won the Saint Lucia Road March, making her the first woman to take that title. Her other carnival songs include Mate, Jammette, Road Block and Wukking Up is We Culture. Later recordings include Ah Charge from 2011, Overdrive with Sergie in 2014, In Di Middle Of Di Road with Ricky T, and Mommy, a 2022 Flatten Riddim track with Blackchiney and Qpid. In 2024 she qualified for the Power Soca Monarch with Kisha Kay on It's Carnival, which SocaNews describes as her final national appearance. She revealed a cancer diagnosis in November 2024 and died at 51, with her death reported on 3 June 2025. Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire paid tribute to her as a soca queen.
