Behind the music

The story so far.

Gerald Alexander "Lord" Rhaburn is a Belizean musician whose work covers calypso, soca, reggae and brukdown. Amandala, the Belize City newspaper, calls him Belize's Calypso King and says he rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with his group, the Lord Rhaburn Combo. His songs "Born Deh" and "Pump It Up" are named in that profile as tracks heard on Belizean radio every September, and his lyrics range from comedy to social and political commentary, including the Guatemalan claim and ties between Belizeans at home and abroad. The same 2022 article reports that he started in music at the age of eight and was honoured with the Lord Rhaburn Plaza, inaugurated on September 9 that year during a Living Legend Concert. Wikipedia notes that he has toured abroad promoting Belizean music and that in 2004 he hosted the first Lord Rhaburn Music Awards. Deezer carries Rhaburn Combo recordings, including the album Rhaburn Combo in New York.
