Lil Canary, a gospel singer and two time calypso monarch.
Behind the music
Faith Corrica, also known as Lil Canary, is a Guyanese gospel artiste who has twice won the senior Calypso Monarch. A 2024 Guyana Times profile says she took the title in 2021, her first year in the senior competition, and won again in 2022, a result HGPTV also reported from the National Stadium. Born on February 16, 2000, she began singing calypso at the age of ten. She is the granddaughter of the calypsonian Malcolm "Lord Canary" Corrica, and the profile says one of her goals is to beat his record of six titles. Her mother, a pastor, helps shape her lyrics so that they stay clean, and she describes calypso as a way to bridge gospel and the national stage. Her YouTube channel posts her 2021 winning entry "Freedom", while AspYre Music Group has released her 2022 winner "Give the Youths a Chance" along with "Better Daze" and "Sweet Calypso", the latter tagged Soca 2023.
