Behind the music

The story so far.

Nekeita is the stage name of Tennicia De Freitas, a singer and songwriter from the village of Kuru-Kururu in Guyana. A 2026 HGPTV feature says she first became known nationally through the junior calypso song "Mama, I Don't Want to Be Born" and was then taken on by producer Burchmore Simon of Kross Kolor Records as the youngest member of the label. Her roots are in calypso, R&B and reggae, but after the pandemic she moved toward soca and became a frontliner for the Heatwave Band. In the 2021 Soca Monarch she placed third singing about the return of Mashramani and carnival, and News Source Guyana noted that she played steel pan during that performance. HGPTV names "Right Hey", "Jammish" and "Vibez Again" among her solo releases. Her YouTube channel also carries "Slip & Fall", tagged 2026 Soca, an official video for "Right Hay" from 2022 and a live recording of "Vibez Again" from the 2021 Soca Monarch.
