Mighty Pep
Physician, former parliamentarian and eight-time Kaiso Monarch.
Behind the music
The story so far.
The Mighty Pep is Desmond Long, a Saint Lucian calypsonian who has also worked as a medical doctor and served as a parliamentarian. By 2016 The Voice counted seven Calypso Monarch titles for him: 1987, 1988 with En Bas Gorge La and Vagrant, 1992 with Bab Camawad and Rags to Riches, 1994 with Calypso Farewell and Alien, 1995 with The Will and Crime Wave, 2002 with Escape to Death and Last Days, and 2009 with Taking a Chance and Get Off. He added the 2017 crown and went into the 2018 final as reigning king, where TC Brown dethroned him. A 2025 report described him as an eight-time Kaiso Monarch. His son Dezral Long followed him into the arena, and when Dezral won the 2022 Calypso Monarch with Legacy, Pep joined him on stage. Victim's Story is shared by the Kwéyòl Sent Lisi channel, and archive uploads of Rags To Riches and Calypso Farewell are also online.
