Behind the music
Vanilla is the stage name of Melissa Roberts, a Guyanese soca singer whom Guyana Times described in 2026 as a ten time Road March Queen. That article covered her return to the Soca Monarch finals in Linden after some time away, with an entry called "We Don't Play". She said the song was about Guyanese people going out to party and about the masquerade tradition, and the paper reported that she had the second highest score at the semi final on the Essequibo Coast. In 2020 HGPTV interviewed her about a remake of her song "One Voice", recorded with other Guyanese artistes as a stand against racism and political division during that election period. Her YouTube channel tags releases such as "One Voice" (Soca 2019) and "I Am 592" (2020 Soca), and Kross Kolor Records issued "Celebrate" as 2021 soca. Guyana Times also noted that she has finished as runner up several times.
