Behind the music

The story so far.

Singing Althea, often billed as Queen Singing Althea, is a singer whose career spans both sides of Antigua Carnival. Petra the Spectator's history of the Party Monarch competition records her 1998 win with "Love Me Up" as a breakout, making her the first woman to take that soca title. She has been just as present in calypso. Uploads from the 2004 Antigua Calypso Monarch show her performing "A Good Man" and "Richious Lady", and a 2006 recording of "Don't Lock She Up" is among her more widely shared tracks. The Antigua government's channel filmed her at the 2012 Wadadli Beer Calypso Monarch, where she sang "Something Special" and "Deception". She was still competing more than two decades after her Party Monarch win, as shown by "Wont Bow Down", posted as Antigua Calypso 2024, which has become one of her most watched videos.
