Behind the music

The story so far.

Seventeen Plus, also written 17+, is a soca band from the drum machine era of carnival music. Wikipedia's overview of Virgin Islands music lists it among the islands' popular bands, next to VIO International, Xpress Band and Starlites. The same article says Imaginations Brass started the local trend of building road music on drum machines and keyboard sequencers, and that Seventeen Plus and the Jam Band later pushed that technique further. Its catalogue on Deezer includes the EP Having a Good Time from 1986 and the albums Bang Dem from 1996 and Pump It Up from 1998. Virgin Isles on Fire and Caribbean Massive sit on the band's YouTube Topic channel, while fan compilations tagged V.I. soca collect songs such as Tramping Wild and Raggamuffin. A full band mix by DJ PanRas, built only from Seventeen Plus material, gives a quick overview of the sound.
