Behind the music

The story so far.

Lijay is a singer, songwriter and producer whose Qobuz biography traces his roots to both Martinique and Guadeloupe. He came to music writing later than most and, without money to spend on studios, taught himself to write, record, mix and sing. He is mainly known for shatta dancehall, with early singles such as "Gaza Gyal Luv" (on the Ramsès Riddim) and "Gaza Land", a 2018 clip he shared with Sorrow. Collaboration drives much of his catalogue: "Cités d'or shatta" brought in Le Jèm'ss and Mikado, while "Copilote" paired him with Kriss TDD and T-Will TDD. His biography adds that "Laptop" by Kalash and Maureen, released in 2022, put his work as a producer in the spotlight. In 2023 he released the EP L'amour c'est pour les nuls and then a reissue that mixes shatta, dancehall and zouk. He has kept a steady flow of singles since, including "I ja ni" and "WANGO" in 2025.
