Behind the music

The story so far.

King Dice, born Dennison Joseph, has won Dominica's Calypso Monarch competition ten times. Soca News reported his ninth title at the final held on Carnival Saturday, 2 March 2019, in Roseau, where he finished ahead of Bobb, Tasha P and Webb. In February 2024 he took a tenth crown at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt, unseating the 2023 monarch Trilla-G with "Wanted" and "Bring Money". Soca News later described those ten wins as stretching back to 2004. His run has not been unbroken: a 2015 CMC report says Karessah ended his reign when he held seven titles, and Richès Karayib reports that Joy dethroned him in 2025, when his entry "Je vends mon passeport" attacked Dominica's passport sales policy. Earlier competition songs on YouTube include "Send Me" from 2011 and "Stand Up For Teacher" from 2012.
