Behind the music

The story so far.

Karessah, whose name is Gregory Riviere, won the Calypso Monarch title in Roseau in February 2015, according to a CMC report carried by CARICOM Today. He had sat out the previous year's competition because of his studies in Australia, then took time away from them to come back and beat a field of ten with "Call Me Name" and "Flush It", ending the run of seven-time monarch King Dice. He told reporters it was one of the biggest victories he had ever had in calypso. His competition songs stretch back well before that win, with "Dog Race" in 2010 and "Fouchette in the Cabinet" in 2011, and "Hook In A Mirror" followed in 2017. In 2025 Soca News listed him among six former monarchs who reached the semi-finals, and he went on to make the nine-strong final held on 1 March at Windsor Park Forecourt.
