Behind the music

The story so far.

Shelly, born Sheldon Alfred, is the lead singer of Signal Band from Dominica. A 2024 Harvard Magazine profile says he began as the group's guitarist, made his calypso debut in 2006 with Give the Youth a Break, and was crowned Dominica's national junior calypso monarch three years running. The same piece notes a 2022 master's degree in architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and later work as an acoustical consultant. With Signal Band he has released four albums, the latest being Déjà Val in 2023, along with singles such as Ani Ba Yo Love, written after Hurricane Maria, and Stronger. In 2025 he joined Trilla-G and Skinny Fabulous on RAGS, which took the first Dominican Bouyon Road March title. Recent videos on the Shelly & Signal Band channel include Bye to de Old Me, Yes Baby and Passing, each labelled Bouyon 2025.
