Behind the music

The story so far.

Starsha, born Marsha Laurent, is a singer from Layou on the west coast of Dominica who now lives in nearby St Joseph, according to a 2021 Soca News profile. Her stage name grew out of the childhood nickname Star, and she credits her father and brothers as early influences. She launched her career in 2017 with the soca single I Doh Fraid, followed by Firewood, produced by Dada Krishna Lawrence of Cotton Groove Studio. Real Good Whine, You Make Me and All Your Love with Shelly are among her earlier releases. System Failure, written by Jair Pendenque and built on the Dwivayèz Riddim, got its video in January 2021. Her bouyon work includes Handle It on the Sook Pak Riddim in 2018, My Man with Signal Band and Ti Lolo, both posted as Bouyon 2023, and Lies with Asa Bantan. In 2025 she joined Sweet PoyZin, Shyanne, Carlyn XP and Ebony Empress on Without You (Women Response).
