Behind the music
Triple Kay International began with three friends from Laudat, Dominica, and grew into a band whose identity is inseparable from the island's fete and carnival circuit. Its early recordings drew on cadence-lypso, Haitian compas and the zouk of the neighbouring French Caribbean. The arrival of vocalist Benji helped move the repertoire toward the faster bouyon sound heard across later albums and singles. The band's own history describes distinct vocal personalities working above a full instrumental backline, with Kendel Laurent central to production. Heat captures its party-facing repertoire, while Still Standing channels resilience following Hurricane Maria. Together they show how a live bouyon band can soundtrack both collective celebration and the experience of a community rebuilding.
