Behind the music
Trilla-G is the performing name of Gael Jno Baptiste, an artist from Goodwill, Dominica, whose work connects bouyon's dance energy with a strong interest in language and storytelling. In an interview with Trinidad and Tobago Newsday, he described making Dominican-style versions of familiar songs and taking part in rap battles while at college before releasing his own music. His career also includes calypso, giving his writing a connection to another of Dominica's major musical traditions. Take Me As I Am offers an entry into his solo catalogue, while Someone Else places him alongside Litleboy and Quan in a collaborative setting. His releases show the conversations between melodic songwriting, local speech and contemporary bouyon production.
