Behind the music

The story so far.

Djakout Mizik is a Haitian konpa band that The Haitian Times counts among the 1990s groups of the nouvelle génération era, alongside Sweet Micky, Lakol, Phantoms and Zenglen. Wikipedia credits the band with helping popularize that electronic branch of compas and notes its debt to System Band and Tabou Combo. Its 1990s rivalry with T-Vice played out in lyrics and press conferences, with Djakout answering T-Vice's Men Elikoptè a with SouSou. In June 2005 The Haitian Times booked Djakout and Nu Look on the same bill at Amazura in Queens, and Djakout arrived riding the album La Familia and its hit Biznis Pam. On New Year's Eve 2007 the band performed with Wyclef Jean on MTV. In 2010 it split in two, one group keeping the name Djakout Mizik and the other becoming Djakout #1, which released Bag La and Libre D'aimer. The Haitian Times lists Djakout Mizik among konpa's internationally followed groups.
