Behind the music

The story so far.

Alan Cavé is a Brooklyn-born singer and songwriter whom The Haitian Times has called the crooner-in-chief of the Haitian music industry. He is the son of writer Syto Cavé, toured as a teenager with his father's theater troupe Kouidor through Martinique, Guadeloupe and rural Haiti, and learned guitar from Boulo Valcourt, whom he calls his idol. He became the voice of the compas band Zin after founder Alex Abellard heard him on a demo tape, and the group broke through with Fèm Vole in 1988 and the hit Opa, during a wave of artists who folded zouk, jazz, reggae and R&B into kompa. As a solo artist he became known for love songs such as Je Fèmen, 365 Jou, Je T'aimerais Toujours and All I Want, the first song he made in his mellow compas love style. He says Se Pa Pou Dat is known from young to old in Africa, and in 2024 he opened for Gims at Madison Square Garden.
