Cabaret, Haiti
Les Cayes-born singer whose ballads and compas made her a konpa star.
Behind the music
Rutshelle Guillaume is a Haitian singer, songwriter and businesswoman born in Les Cayes in 1988 and raised in Port-au-Prince, according to French Wikipedia, which says she started out singing in her father's church. She joined the student group REL at the École Nationale des Arts in 2007. Her breakthrough came with the single Kite m kriye and the 2014 album Emotions, and her 2017 duet Kanse with Kaï widened her audience. Rebelle followed, then Quoi Qu'il Advienne in 2021, a mix of compas, afrobeats and ballads that produced Rete La and M Pa La Ankò, and the 22-track 12 Era in November 2025. Le Nouvelliste named her Haiti's 2017-18 Female Artist of the Year, as The Haitian Times noted, and the paper lists her among the vocalists who elevated konpa and among the soloists bringing it to younger audiences. In 2023 she was up for a TRACE Award against Kalash, Bamby, Admiral T, Shenseea and Popcaan.
