Behind the music
Roody Roodboy, born Roody Pétuel Dauphin in Port-au-Prince in 1988, is a Haitian singer and rapper who grew up near the capital's international airport in Cité Militaire, according to French Wikipedia. After his father was killed during the political turmoil of 2004, an uncle taught him guitar in 2005. Haitian audiences first saw him as a finalist on the Digicel Stars contest in 2008, and he returned in 2010 to take third place before launching his solo career with Pa Dekouraje. His singles include Lòbey, Tranble, M'anvi Goute'w, Krazèd Fwaye with Oswald, An Kachet and Manch, and he was crowned national carnival champion in 2018. His albums are Fòk Tèt ou la from 2016 and Tou9 from 2023, whose steamy Dous Pou Dous The Haitian Times picked for its 2023 kompa playlist. In 2024 the paper reported that his YouTube channel had passed 200 million views, and at the end of 2025 he played year-end shows in Haiti's provincial cities.
