Behind the music

The story so far.

Skah Shah is a konpa band born out of Shleu Shleu, the group Hugues "Dada" Jackaman founded in 1965. Le Nouvelliste recounts that after internal conflicts, Yves Arsène Appolon moved to New York in 1973 and was soon followed by Georges Loubert Chancy, Jean Élie "Cubano" Telfort, Joseph Mario Mayala, Johnny Frantz Toussaint, Frédéric Mews and Georges Francis. The new band, named Skah Shah, played its first concert at the Malibu Night Club on June 29, 1974. The Haitian Times lists Skah Shah #1 among the original konpa groups still going strong when the nouvelle génération bands arrived. Singer Jean-Michel "Zouzoul" St-Victor, best known as one of its lead voices and for the hits Caroline and Men niméwo a, died at his Florida home in December 2023; he once said indiscipline, women and money were at the root of the band's conflicts. Online, the Topic channel carries O'Zanana (This Is It).
