Behind the music

The story so far.

Roy Cape All Stars was the band built around saxophonist Roy Cape, who spent more than 50 years as a band musician and appeared on hundreds of calypso recordings. Cape formed the All Stars in 1980 after earlier spells with the bands of Frankie Francis and Clarence Curvan, and he released eight albums with the group. Across his career he toured and recorded with The Mighty Sparrow, Lord Kitchener, The Mighty Chalkdust, Denyse Plummer and Black Stalin. In 2017 the band changed its name to D'All Starz, and Cape stepped back to focus on the Roy Cape Foundation, which gives instruments and music training to at-risk young people. The University of the West Indies gave him an honorary degree in 2011, and he died in September 2024 at the age of 82. Recordings under the band name include "Leh Go" with Blaxx in 2013, "Tremble It", and a 2017 All Star remix of Teddyson John's "No Code". Deezer lists the album Ready Again from 2009.
