Rooplal Girdharie is a former Chutney Soca Monarch, named in Wikipedia's chutney soca history among champions crowned between 1996 and 2010 alongside Sonny Mann, Rikki Jai, Heeralal Rampartap and Ravi Bissambhar. At the 2024 final in San Fernando, the Trinidad Guardian reported, Southex chief executive George Singh presented him with an award, one of three handed to figures in the genre. That same year the new monarch, Rick Ram, told Eastern Eye that he counted Girdharie among the living legends of chutney who inspired him to compete. His song Dhaiya Pegai circulates on YouTube, and his own channel carries live footage such as Oh Preetam Pyaare with the Gemini Band and a 2022 performance of Ai Meri Zohrajabeen. What Really Went Wrong was released with an official video on the Chutney Soca Music channel.
