Behind the music

The story so far.

Nehilet Blackman is a Trinidad and Tobago singer from the Blackman family, the children of Ras Shorty I, who built the gospel soca style known as jamoo. Caribbean Beat's family profile places her in Tunapuna, where she and her sister Marge ran the Jamoo Designs clothing line, and it compares her stage style to Janet Jackson, calling her the family's hip hop queen. Her YouTube channel labels "One God" as jamoo in 2014 and "Sweet Darling" as Afro and jamoo in 2018. Both songs appear on Legacy, a ten track album released in September 2018 that also carries "Trini Makossa", "Lift My Voice" and "Gao Gao", a chutney number. In 2021 she joined Raymond Ramnarine on "Good Vibez", a soca single. She also wrote and sings on "Amazing", a track on Garth Sinnette's Action1 Riddim from 2025, which keeps her voice in the gospel riddim scene.
