Behind the music

The story so far.

Coutain is the stage name of Denzil Coutain, born in 1996 in Sangre Grande, Trinidad and Tobago. A cousin pushed him toward music when he was about 13, and his breakout came in 2019 with African Dancer, a song recorded a few years before its release. Product of Big Blood followed in 2020, and in May 2024 he issued his debut album, 1996, on Form and Order. His run with producer Michael "Tano" Montano includes Junction in 2023 and Jamtown on the Heroes Riddim for the 2025 season. Artform, recorded with Dwala, spent close to a month at number one on Apple Music's Trinidad and Tobago chart late in 2024. He also sings on Cocoa Tea by Kes and opened for Kes on part of the 2026 Roots, Rock, Soca Tour. At the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards he earned three nominations, including soca video of the year for Jamtown, and won Best New Soca Artist.
