Behind the music

The story so far.

Subance is the stage name of Gervan Janvier, a performer from Dennery, on Saint Lucia's Atlantic coast. A 2017 profile in The Voice described him and his partner Mighty as musical brothers who sing, dance and act, and said Subance, the elder of the two, began performing at age seven. Caribbean Beat credits Subance and Mighty with crystallising Dennery Segment through a series of riddims, and their Bad in Bum Bum was a 2017 hit in Trinidad and Tobago. Speaking to LargeUp, Subance said the pair took inspiration from Angolan kuduro and that his Jammin' Entertainment camp was among the first to build and sing on a Dennery Segment beat. His releases on the Jammin' channel include Bay Pat from 2019, Ok Google from 2023 and Apiyé, a 2025 track with Mikado on the Tiki Twaka Riddim. In 2020 he joined Mighty, Umpa and Freezy on the animated track Bat Virus La.
