Grand Masters Band
St. Kitts and Nevis
Old Road country band with a long Road March record.
Behind the music
According to its Soca News profile, Small Axe Band started out in St. Kitts in 1980, first billed as Vibrational Roots Combo with Small Axe added in brackets. The same profile counts eight members, all from the Old Road and Verchilds areas, which is why the group is called "the country band." It credits the band with nine Road March wins at the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival and lists tours of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, plus a performance at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Machel Montano, Destra, WCK and Krosfyah are among the acts it has shared stages with. On YouTube, "Drop De Soap" is filed as 2012 Saint Kitts Nevis Soca from the One Step Ahead release, and "Whiskey" carries a Wilders 2023 tag. The 2013 Deezer album World Tour includes "Sweet Iron" and "Party Like A West Indian." SKNIS listed the band for the Sugar Mas Soca Review at the 2023 St. Kitts Music Festival.
