Behind the music

The story so far.

Jeff Joseph, known in Dominica as Jeff Joe, is named by the Division of Culture among the leading vocalists of the cadence-lypso period. A companion essay groups him with Gordon Henderson and Julie Mourillon as kadans pioneers who moved on to solo careers, and says he explored a fusion of disco, reggae and kadans on tracks such as Banana Sweet. LargeUp’s report on the 2012 World Creole Music Festival records that the 16th edition was dedicated to him, that he died weeks after his last appearance at the 2011 festival, and that his old band Grammacks reunited at the 2012 event for a set of their best-known songs. The listening entries below come from Jeff Joseph Live, where the provider’s credits name Jeff Joseph as songwriter and list Gramacks New Generation among the performers.
