Behind the music

The story so far.

Grammacks belong to the first wave of Dominican cadence-lypso bands. The Division of Culture lists them among the bands of the cadence era of the seventies and, in a separate essay, names Exile One and Grammacks as the big names of that decade in Dominican music. LargeUp’s coverage of the 2012 World Creole Music Festival calls Grammacks the old band of Jeff Joseph, whom the same government survey counts among the period’s leading vocalists. It reports that Grammacks reunited there for a set of their best-known songs, and a photo caption names Anthony “Tepam” George as a Grammacks guitarist on that stage. Provider catalogs spell the name Grammacks, Grammack’s and Gramacks; those spellings are kept as separate observations, and editions credited jointly to Grammacks and Jeff Joseph remain shared.
