Andy Narell is a steelpan performer, composer and educator who grew up in Queens, New York. His work connects jazz improvisation, steel-band arranging and calypso repertoire. In his Percussive Arts Society interview, he recalls beginning pan as a child and performing with the Steel Bandits. Hidden Treasure, released in 1979, introduced his work as a recording leader. His collaborations include the Caribbean Jazz Project with Paquito D’Rivera and Dave Samuels, Sakésho with Mario Canonge, Michel Alibo and Jean Philippe Fanfant, and the album University of Calypso with Relator. Narell also describes writing Coffee Street for Skiffle Bunch in the 1999 Panorama and developing music through teaching at Calypsociation in France. He entered the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2017. Tatoom and Appreciation offer two entry points into his steelpan compositions; the selected album listings name Luis Conte and Mark Walker as guests. Song and album dates remain separate where the provider metadata differs.
