Calypso Rose is a Tobagonian calypso singer whose career connects Caribbean performance traditions with international releases. Her label, Because Music, places her emergence in the 1960s and identifies Fire In Me Wire among her early songs. NALIS records her Calypso Monarch victory in 1978 and Road March titles in 1977 and 1978. Her later catalog includes Far from Home, released through Because Music in 2016. Its tracklist includes Abatina, Calypso Queen and collaborations credited to Manu Chao. The label describes attention to women’s lives as an important theme in her songs. Her work offers several routes for a new listener: begin with an identified album edition, follow the named collaborators, and compare the older repertoire with later recordings. The catalog keeps those edition dates separate from claims about when a song was first written or recorded.
