Behind the music

The story so far.

Sean Daniel is a gospel singer whose work joins calypso rhythm with Christian lyrics, a style known as gospelypso. A 2010 profile on the Faluma label site calls him the foremost proponent of the style and notes that he began singing with his twin brother Shane at age five. His song "Pan in Heaven" in 1998 brought wide airplay along with some criticism from religious listeners. In 1999 he won the Unattached Calypso Monarch title with "One A Day", and in 2002 "Numbers" earned him two Marlin Awards and a Sunshine Award. The same profile lists a 2003 Barbados Flame award for best foreign artiste. His album Divine Soca, recorded in 2003, gathers "Song of Praise", "Character" and "Pan in Heaven". Faluma released his 2014 album Magnet, which includes "Waving Ting" and "Jesus Alone". In 2022 he was named a semifinalist in the Diamond Jubilee Independence Calypso Monarch competition.
