Behind the music

The story so far.

The Mighty Dow, born Isidore York, is a St. Maarten singer whose music Caribbean Beat described in 2000 as a blend of calypso, soca, zouk and Latin styles. According to that profile he began singing in 1981 and took the island's Road March twice, first with "Forkin'" in 1982 and then the following year with "St Maarten Jamboree". His 1980s hits included "Soca Salsa" and "St Maarten Rhumba", and his soca song for 2000 was "Trini Woman". The same article reports a 1990 nomination for Billboard's Premio Lo Nuestro award, a tour of most of Mexico in 1997 and a guest spot during Trinidad and Tobago's 2000 carnival season, and notes that he plays and arranges pan. "St. Maarten Rumba" circulates in several uploads online, and "La Rumba de San Martin" appears on the 2014 compilation Caribbean Cruise. On Deezer he also has the 2014 single "You Make Me Feel So" on York Region Records.
