Behind the music

The story so far.

Georges Décimus is a Guadeloupean bassist, composer, arranger and producer, and a founding member of Kassav'. His Miziknou profile says he formed the group Les Hunters as a teenager, then joined Venus One at the invitation of Patrick Saint-Éloi and César Durcin. In 1979 he launched Kassav' with his brother Pierre-Édouard Décimus, and Jacob Desvarieux came on board. The French Ministry of Culture credits Desvarieux and Décimus with composing the 1984 hit "Zouk la sé sèl médikaman nou ni", and a Kassav' press kit says their duo album Yélélé earned the first gold record in French Caribbean music in 1986. In 1991 he left Kassav' and started Volt Face with Jeff Joseph, later joined by Dominik Coco, Dominique Panol and Kathryn Thelamon. He returned to Kassav' in 2004. The band's YouTube channel also hosts a bass lesson in which he walks through "Ké Sa Lévé".
