Behind the music

The story so far.

Fay-Ann Lyons is a soca artist from Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago. VP Records identifies her 2009 International Soca Monarch victory as the first by a woman. Her catalog connects Carnival songs with longer releases: Break the World, issued in 2017, contains 16 tracks in the documented US edition. It opens with Hold On Something and includes Girls, Air Supply and Raze. Featured names in that edition’s track titles include Buffy, Bunji Garlin, Joli Rouge Sound and Stonebwoy; those credits belong to the named tracks rather than every song on the album. For an introduction, follow the opening track and Girls below, then explore the complete sequence and its individual listening links. The catalog keeps album-edition dates separate from claims about when an individual song was first recorded or released.
