Behind the music

The story so far.

Derick "Rah" Peters is a singer whose name runs through the early story of bouyon. A March 2026 Booska-P feature on the genre's history, spelling him Rah Pitters, describes a singer who wanted to build a sound that was both popular and modern, working with his group Windward Caribbean Kulture, better known as WCK. In the same article, producer J2mo recalls that once Rah and WCK created the music, people began playing it at carnival. A YouTube tribute titled The Bouyon King calls him an icon of Dominican music, and another clip introduces him as formerly of WCK in footage of a packed London show. Footage from the 2011 World Creole Music Festival captures him on that stage. Later solo releases include Share De Live, posted as a Bouyon 2020 song, and Nou Wive, a track produced by Dada and shared on that producer's channel.
