Behind the music

The story so far.

De Fosto, billed as The Original De Fosto Himself, was the stage name of Winston Scarborough. He was abandoned at birth and grew up at the St Mary's Home in Tacarigua, and he started out as a trombonist who arranged his own music in his early calypso years. He made his professional singing debut in 1976 with "Chicks Come Out to Play", and his career went on to span 40 years. His best known songs include "Pan in A Rage", "In a Palace State of Mind", "Police Money" and "Firestorm", and he was especially admired for pan tunes such as "Pan Lamentation" and "D Greatest Invention". Colleagues saw him as a possible heir to Lord Kitchener in that field. A patriot often dressed in the national colours, he also turned to social commentary. He sang at the Mighty Shadow's funeral at the Queen's Park Savannah and died at his Morvant home only days later.
