Behind the music

The story so far.

Blaxx was Dexter Stewart, the soca singer born in Siparia and raised in Morvant. In his 2008 Newsday interview, he recalled performing childhood calypso as The Mighty Chocolate, with an early song written by his mother, Veronica. He later sang with Upstream and Blue Ventures before his work with Roy Cape. A 2016 interview describes both his recordings and his mentoring of younger singers, including Voice and Ricardo Drue. He went on to lead D’All Starz, whose statement with his family announced his death in March 2022. Persuasion (Grand Stand Riddim) and Colours are selected listening entries from the repertoire he discussed in 2016. Their evidence is specific to those songs: multiple streaming profiles named Blaxx also contain uncorroborated repertoire, so the wider source inventories remain separated while individual artist associations are checked.
