Behind the music

The story so far.

Anslem Douglas is a Grammy-winning songwriter described by the Trinidad Guardian as a child of Trinidad and Tobago. He started singing soca with the band Fire Flight in the 1980s while serving in the Coast Guard, and went full time in October 1990. His hit "Ragga Pum Pum" rocked Carnival before he moved to Canada in 1994. Douglas wrote "Who Let the Dogs Out", and the Baha Men's version won the Grammy for Best Dance Track at the 2001 awards. He placed fifth at the 1999 Soca Monarch with "Palms on the Ground", and returned to the International Soca Monarch for Carnival 2013 with the power soca "Bacchanal (Ah Come Again)". Songs he has sung for Panorama have won the national title three times: "Musical Vengeance" for Phase II Pan Groove in 2008, "Battle Zone" for Silver Stars in 2010 and "Showtime" for Trinidad All Stars in 2011. His live sets still call for "When Ah Dead".
