Behind the recording

Mwen Alé — Kassav’: Béroard’s explanation, credits and live medleys

Jocelyne Béroard describes “Mwen Alé” as a song about leaving home to find work while promising to return. Its catalog history also requires a practical distinction: the standalone Tekit Izi entry and the later concert medleys are separately identified performances.

Leaving for work, with a promise to return

Jocelyne Béroard explains “Mwen Alé” in her 2019 Pan African Music interview as a song about young people who leave to seek employment and promise to come back. This is the artist’s explanation of its subject, rather than a claim that the narrator describes a particular documented journey.

That context gives the standalone title a clear point of reference when it appears inside a longer concert medley. The presence of “Mwen Alé” in a multi-song title does not mean the whole track consists of this song.

Credits attached to the Tekit Izi entry

The Tekit Izi song page credits Jacob Desvarieux and Jocelyne Béroard for writing and composition. It also separates production from recording engineering, naming Kassav’, Didier Lozahic, Didier Pitois and Desvarieux in the roles below. These credits belong to this entry and are not automatically assigned to the later live medley.

Find the named edition or performance

The 2016 Zénith listing explicitly joins “Mwen Alé” with “Kay Manman.” The Paris La Défense Arena and Sé’w nou Enmé listings combine it with different sets of songs. Their full titles help distinguish these concert sequences from the standalone Tekit Izi entry.

The captured Tekit Izi album date is August 27, 1993, but its song header gives November 23, 1992. The difference remains unresolved; neither date is presented as a confirmed first release.
