Why Hinds chose the title Soca Queen
In Cheryl Nneka U. Hazell’s 2007 WE Magazine interview, Alison Hinds explained that listeners had called her Soca Queen during her Square One years, so she used that familiar title for her solo debut. She also described seeking greater flexibility and creative control after leaving the band. Her account places the album within a change in how she shaped her performances and working life.
