Behind the music
Biggie Irie is the stage name of Carlton Cordle. The Jamaica Gleaner reported that he was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Barbados at the age of three. He sang in the choir at St Michael's Cathedral as a boy, played reggae with the band Exodus and toured with the Splash Band and Spice and Company. Nah Going Home became a soca hit around the Caribbean in 2006, with a video directed by Jay Will, and in 2007 he won the International Groovy Soca Monarch in Trinidad and Tobago. The Gleaner noted he was the first artiste from outside Trinidad and Tobago to win a competition there. He calls his style groovy soca, slower than the faster fare. The Nation reported his second Groovy Soca Monarch run in 2014 with Need Ah Riddim, written by Jason Bishop and produced by De Red Boyz, who also released Pankatang, Money Well Spent and Rehab.
