A commission became an invitation
In her January 2019 Newsday interview, Batson recalled Farmer Nappy asking her around mid-2018 to write on a Red Boyz rhythm. That request produced “Hookin Meh.” After hearing it, he encouraged her to create something for herself on the same rhythm.
Batson described imagining how a Trinidadian would greet an old friend, then turning that encounter into a song. She remembered completing the writing in one studio session and thought it took less than two hours. That duration is her estimate, rather than a timed session record.
The provider lists several writing contributions
Batson’s account explains her concept; it is not a statement that she was the only contributor. Apple’s selected song page distinguishes lyric-writing, composition and production roles. “Lyrics” below is the provider’s authorship label, not a reproduction of the words sung.
| Contributor | Provider role |
|---|---|
| Nadia Batson | Lyrics |
| Darryl Henry | Lyrics; Composer |
| Michael Hulsmeier | Composer |
| Scott Galt | Composer |
| Erikkson George | Lyrics |
| De Red Boyz | Producer |

Find both recordings on the shared release
The selected edition of The Purple Heart Riddim - Single places Farmer Nappy’s “Hookin’ Meh” first and Batson’s “So Long” second. Its October 19, 2018 edition date belongs to this package; it does not date the writing session.
Use the performer names to select the intended recording. Sharing a rhythm and release does not make the two songs alternate titles for one recording.
| Track | Title | Performer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hookin’ Meh | Farmer Nappy |
| 2 | So Long | Nadia Batson |
