Behind the recording

The People and Iwer — the choir, four approaches and seven tracks

Iwer George wanted a choir to represent the people in “The People and Iwer.” His account explains how that collaboration began; the seven-track edition makes the named versions easier to choose.

Finding Voix Riches

Iwer told Newsday that he contacted Queen’s Hall when he wanted a choir. Its manager referred him to the southern group Voix Riches, whom he then brought into the studio. He described the collaboration as a way of returning the affection audiences had shown him.

He said writing had begun two years earlier and production took three months. These are retrospective intervals, not exact session dates.

Four approaches and seven indexed tracks

The interview describes chutney, jab jab, live and acoustic approaches. The captured edition uses “Power Soca” as one of its labels and adds extended tracks to three of the four groups. The interview’s broad version count and the seven-track listing therefore describe different levels of detail; no unlabelled Jab Jab track is invented.

Read the producer for the chosen version

The selected song pages share composition/lyrics names—Neil Iwer George, Bjorn Graham, Andrew Phillip and Robert Baptiste—but show different production teams. Voix Riches is named by Iwer’s interview; its absence from these provider performer lists should not be read as evidence against the choir’s participation.
