Behind the recording

I Am — Edwin Yearwood’s writing session and the later Jam Down listing

Edwin Yearwood’s account places the creation of “I Am” with Nicholas Brancker in 2020. The selected streaming entry appears on the later Jam Down album.

From a phone demonstration to the studio

Yearwood told Barbados Today that writing “I Am” took a few hours. He sang it to Nicholas Brancker by phone and recalled receiving a groove about half an hour later.

They met in the studio the following day, when the song was essentially finished. Those recalled intervals do not establish exact session dates.

A message he still wanted people to dance to

Yearwood wanted a contribution to Black consciousness during worldwide racial tensions that people could still dance to.

The July 30, 2020 article describes a release roughly three weeks earlier, establishing a pre-2023 context without an exact debut date.

How the Jam Down listing differs

Apple’s selected “I Am” entry belongs to Jam Down, dated August 11, 2023. Its song page names Edwin Yearwood for lead vocals and composition, and Rhadika Publishing as producer.

The 2020 interview names Nicholas Brancker as the individual producer involved in creation. The later provider’s company credit is preserved separately; it does not cancel that firsthand account or prove a newly recorded version. No master-level comparison is available.
