Behind the recording

Do Something Krazy — Asa Bantan: 2013 audio and later compilation dates

“Do Something Krazy” has a North Island Records audio page dated January 2013 and later distributor entries tied to 2019 and 2020 compilations. Those dates describe different appearances, not three competing dates for a single recording session.

The 2013 North Island Records audio page

North Island Records’ public SoundCloud page displays January 20, 2013 for an Asa Bantan audio upload titled “Do Something Krazy.” Its description names Great Music Studio in the recording-credit line and North Island Records as label.

This is a dated earlier audio page, not proof of a worldwide first release or of the session date. It is useful evidence when a later compilation makes the song appear to originate in 2019 or 2020.

The 2019 and 2020 dates refer to later packages

The IIP-DDS-supplied YouTube entry places the song on The Soca Experience and gives February 18, 2019 as its release date. The CDBaby-supplied entry places it on Asa Bantan Greatest Hits Vol. 2 and gives October 10, 2020. Apple’s selected Vol. 2 entry also displays October 10, 2020.

These package dates should not replace the 2013 audio-page date. The sources establish separate appearances under the same song title; they do not establish whether the audio masters are identical, newly mixed or otherwise altered.

The IIP-DDS description credits Riddim Box as music publisher, North Island Records as composer, Asa Banton as lyricist and Asa Edwards for composition and lyrics. Apple’s Vol. 2 song page uses Asa Bantan for lyrics, Asa Edwards for songwriting and North Island Records for composition.

The differing Bantan/Banton spellings are retained as source observations. North Island Records is a company-name credit in these fields; it is not converted into a person’s legal name. These entries supply credit information without resolving every name or recording relationship.
